Awards 2007

The evening of Tuesday 13th of November 2007 marked the fourth year of Thornespark Cleaning Services' Outstanding Service Awards.

The awards are Thornespark's way of recognizing the invaluable contribution that cleaners and supervisory staff make to their work environment and the 4 main awards were for Cleaner of the Year, Caretaker of the Year, Cleaning Supervisor of the Year and Teamwork.

Candidates were nominated by building users phoning, emailing, or by filling a form and returning it to Thornespark. To make judging fair, 3 independent judges from BICSc (British Institute of Cleaning Science) travelled the district talking to the staff and looking at the results of all their hard work.

The Awards were held at Wakefield Town Hall where a civic reception was held for the nominees who received certificates, flowers, prizes and a buffet lunch.

Thornespark Cleaning's Training Officer, Phil Bell, said "It was great to see so many smiley faces and people having a good time. It was a pleasure to organize and I'm glad to see people get the recognition they so richly deserve. Cleaners can so often be taken for granted."

The 2007 winners were:
Caretaker of the Year - Bob Clarkson
Cleaner of the Year - Christine Wilson
Cleaning Supervisor - Kath Nicholson

Teamwork:
Primary Schools- Normanton Newlands Primary
High Schools- Knottingley High School and Sports College
Public & Municipal Buildings- Highfield House, Castleford

The Cleanest Classroom Award

Bob Clarkson and his cleaning team at Ackton Pastures Primary in Castleford have started a fantastic initiative called 'Cleanest Classroom'.

The cleaning team pick the class each month that have tidied up their room the best. The class are presented with a trophy and certificate in assembly as the school sing the clean classroom song!

The reason it all started was because classrooms were being left in a state similar to when a tornado sweeps through a building! The kids then expected Thornespark Cleaners to wave their magic wands ready for next day. One day they refused and the mess was left for them to come back to!
